The Faculty of General & Adapted Physical Education and Yoga (GAPEY), Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute, Coimbatore Campus, organized the State Level Yogasana Competition for Persons with Disabilities on 5 February 2026 at the GAPEY campus.
The programme commenced at 8.00 a.m. with registration and chest number allotment. The competition began at 9.00 a.m., where participants from different disability categories and age groups performed yogasana with dedication, discipline, and enthusiasm. The event created an inclusive environment that encouraged confidence, participation, and celebration of ability.
A total of 363 students from 41 schools across the state participated in the competition. Among them were 257 boys and 106 girls, competing across the categories of Intellectual Disability (ID), Hearing Impairment (HI), Visual Impairment (VI), and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), in four age groups: below 6 years, 7–10 years, 11–15 years, and above 15 years.
The valedictory function was held at 12.30 p.m. The programme began with a prayer song by the Vidyalaya music teachers. The function was presided over by Mr. Sanket Balwant Waghe, Additional Collector, DRDRA, and Swami Garishthananda Maharaj. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. R. Giridharan, Associate Professor and Head, RKMVERI – GAPEY. Swami Trilokatmananda Maharaj distributed prizes to the winners and appreciated the participants for their inspiring performances. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. D. Yuvaraj, Assistant Professor, RKMVERI – GAPEY. The programme concluded with the National Anthem, followed by lunch at 1.00 p.m.
The competition served as a meaningful platform for inclusion, empowerment, and promotion of yogic values among persons with disabilities. The enthusiastic participation and smooth organization marked the event as a great success.
