Nasha Mukt Yuva – Gen-Z Against Addiction

In connection with the nationwide "Nasha Mukt Yuva – Gen-Z Against Addiction" campaign under the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, awareness activities were organised at Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Coimbatore, on 2nd August 2026 (Sunday) prior to the live virtual interaction with the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India. The pre-event programme, presided over by Swami Garishthananda Maharaj, Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Coimbatore, aimed to sensitise students and the public to the harmful effects of substance abuse while promoting the values of a healthy, disciplined, and addiction-free lifestyle. Around 1100 students, teachers, and administrative staff members actively participated in the programme. 

The pre-event commenced at 9.00 a.m. with a Walkathon, flagged off by Sri. G. Rajeshkannan, Inspector of Police, Periyanaickenpalayam, symbolising the collective resolve of the youth towards building a drug-free India. Participants enthusiastically marched across the campus carrying placards and spreading the message of a healthy, responsible, and addiction-free society. 

The Walkathon was followed by a Devotional Session (Satsang), comprising Bhajans.The session created a serene atmosphere and encouraged participants to cultivate inner strength, self-discipline, and moral values as effective safeguards against addiction.

Thereafter, Sri M. Kanagasabapathy, B.Sc., M.A., Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Periyanaickenpalayam Sub-Division, Coimbatore, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and delivered an inspiring address on the ill effects of drug abuse. He highlighted the physical, psychological, social, and legal consequences of substance abuse and urged the youth to become responsible citizens by staying away from drugs and contributing positively to society. 

Immediately after the chief guest address, all participants collectively administered the Nasha Mukt Yuva Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to remain drug-free and to actively spread awareness against substance abuse among their families, educational institutions, and communities. 

The programme then featured Youth Icon Speech by student representative, Mr. U. Mukesh Kannan, of master degree student, delivered a thought-provoking address on "Viksit Bharat 2047," emphasising the pivotal role of youth in transforming India into a developed nation through discipline, responsibility, and social commitment. 

As part of the programme, a brief guided meditation session was conducted for the entire gathering. The participants engaged in a few minutes of silent meditation, fostering mental calmness, self-awareness, and emotional resilience.

Following the session, an Anti-Drug Awareness Video was screened, reinforcing the campaign's message by educating participants about the dangers of substance abuse and encouraging them to make informed, healthy, and responsible life choices.
At 10.45 a.m., all participants joined the live virtual interaction with the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, which formed the central component of the nationwide "Nasha Mukt Yuva – Gen-Z Against Addiction" campaign under the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan. During his address, the Hon'ble Prime Minister emphasised the importance of protecting the younger generation from substance abuse, encouraged youth to become ambassadors of a drug-free India, and reiterated their vital role in realising the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Subsequently, after the Prime Minister's address, participants visited the specially arranged "Nasha Mukt Yuva – Gen-Z Against Addiction" Selfie Point, where students, faculty members, invited guests, and members of the public enthusiastically captured photographs carrying the campaign's message. The selfie point served as an innovative awareness initiative, encouraging participants to share the message of a drug-free India through social media, thereby extending the outreach and impact of the campaign beyond the event venue.
The programme concluded with the National Anthem, marking the successful completion of the Nasha Mukt Yuva – Gen-Z Against Addiction Programme. The enthusiastic participation of students, teachers, and administrative staff members reflected a strong collective commitment towards the Government of India's vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 by encouraging a healthy, responsible, and addiction-free generation.
