Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya Institute of Agriculture and Rural Development was started in 1956 as “School of Agriculture” functioning under the Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya Rural Institute with the initial financial assistance from the National Council for Rural Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India. Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya Rural Institute School of Agriculture was affiliated to the State Government in 1977 to be under the control of the Director of Agriculture in view of its factual services in providing training for farmers’ children for self-employment and for employment in Government sectors, private and co operative sugar factories, pesticides & fertilizers companies, banks, cooperative societies, extension services, etc.
Seeds sowingSri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya School of Agriculture was affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore in the year 1983 offering 2-year Diploma in Agriculture in the Sri Ramakrishna Vidyalaya Institute, as Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya Institute of Agriculture and Rural Development.
This Institute is admitting 50 students every year. Most of the students are farmers’ children hailing from rural areas.
The Institute takes up effective steps in imparting the best of agricultural teaching, more pertinent to practical aspects keeping in line with the latest trends in agriculture. The Institute fairly possesses all the infrastructural facilities needful for imparting the best of agricultural teaching with a rich blending of practical knowledge
The Institute Managing Committee monitors the efficient functioning of the Institute.
The Institute is conducting seminars for the rural agriculturists on various topics related with soil and water conservation, adoption of improved varieties of crop species, fodder production, forestry, integrated farming system, etc. which can pave the way towards “Sustainable Agriculture”.
Students of this Institute regularly visit the villages, get in touch with their contact farmers, motivate them, educate them about the latest findings and help them to reap the harvest of the latest technologies. With the coordination of the Department of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, the students of this Institute supplied improved varieties of seeds, fruit and fodder seedlings to the adopted farmers.Nursery preparation and uprooting (3)
Every year private organisations, multinational companies and other firms conduct campus interviews in this Institute and provide employment to the students immediately after their completion of examinations. Some of the students started entrepreneurship activities such as Mushroom production, dairying, sheep and goat rearing, silk-worm rearing and bio-control agencies in a well-established manner.

This Institute functions according to the stipulated norms and assistance from the Government.
