The college was started in 1964 with the blessings of Srimat
Swami Madhavanandaji Maharaj and has completed 42 years of useful
and meaningful service to the student community and to the society.
The college follows the great ideals placed before
the country by Sri Ramakrishna, Swami Vivekananda and Mahatma Gandhi.
The institution believes that the greatness of a man is not to be
judged by the work he does but by his attitude, outlook and devotion.
The youth of the nation should be trained to develop spiritual strength,
intellectual independence and moral character. They must also learn
discipline and develop the capacity to work in cooperation with
others.
The college has adopted the following Mission Statement:
"The College has a Unique
Mission of developing the youth by imparting intellectual training;
equipping them with vocational skills so as to make them employable;
inculcating in them the right attitudes, values and moral character
and developing a holistic personality of its students with a balanced
development of head, heart and hand"
The activities of the
institution is organised with these ideals and mission in view.
During the last few years, the institution has seen lot of improvements
in its infrastructure and other facilities.
The College is in its twenty - fourth
year of autonomy. It offers graduate courses in English Literature
(with Functional English as vocational subjects), Cooperation (with
Advertising, Sales Promotion and Sales Management as vocational
subjects), Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Electronics, and Computer
Science; Postgraduate courses in Cooperation, Social Work (with
Labour Welfare and Community Development as electives), Mathematics,
Physics, and Chemistry; M.Phil courses in Tamil, Cooperation, Social
Work, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Computer Science; and
Ph.D courses in Tamil, Cooperation, Social Work, Physics and Chemistry.
The College also offers MCA, MSc (Applied Electronics), B.Com (Cooperation),
BSc (Computer Science), B.Com(CA) and B.Sc Physical Education as
Self-financing courses. From the academic year 2005-2006, Add-on
Diploma courses in E-Commerce and Insurance are conducted with UGC
assistance.
The college is taking steps for starting B.Com and BCA courses in the coming
academic year.

The college imparts man-making and character-building
education. This has been made possible by giving value education
at the undergraduate level itself. Daily prayers and weekly bhajans
with spiritual talks are a part of the academic programme. NSS/NCC
are compulsory components of all the undergraduate students (both
aided and self-financing courses) under Part-IV. During the first
year, the college also offers one course in computer awareness to
all the undergraduate students of non-computer streams with the
help of the MCA department.
The college is a recipient of X plan Development
Grant for the undergraduate departments and for the post graduate
departments of Physics Chemistry, Cooperation and Social Work.
The college has also received the UGC's Special
Assistance Grant of Rs. 15 lakh for a computer-oriented paper for
the PG courses. The Department of Physics acts as a Nodal Centre
for this programme.
The college has received the B+ rating given
by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council(NAAC), which
visited the college on 12th April 2003.
The college has received UGC grant of Rs. 5
lakh for conducting Career Oriented Course in Advertising, E-Commerce
and Insurance from the academic year 2004-2005. The College has
received Autonomy grant to the tune of Rs. 13 lakhs during the
current academic year.

Department of MCA conducted a seminar on Career
Opportunities in IT and Smt.R.Sripriya, Consultant, Srihari
Techno Soft, Coimbatore was the Chief Guest.
A three day workshop on Quantum Physics through
MATLAB was organized by the Department of Physics in collaboration
with Indian Association of Physics Teachers between 19th
and 21st December 2005.
As part of the Platinum Jubilee Concluding
Function, Inter collegiate Elocution Competition was held both
in Tamil as well as English, at 10AM on 1-2-06. (There were
16 participants in English and 24 participants in Tamil). The
prize distribution function was held in the evening at 3.00PM
Swami Visweshanandaji Maharaj distributed certificates to the
participants and prizes to the winners.
OTHER IMPORTANT EVENTS
College Committee Meeting was held on 25.04.2005.
Inspection Commission visited the College on 19.5.2005 for
granting of affiliation to the newly started course BSc Physical
Education.
A group of four teachers of the Yashwant Mahavidyalaya, Nanded
visited our college to study the functioning of autonomy on 28th
April, 2005.
Staff Selection Committee conducted walk in Interview on 25.05.2005
and 27.05.2005 for selection of lecturers for the vacant position
in the college.
Result Passing Board Meeting was convened on 06.06.2005 and
the results of the even semester examinations were passed.
Board of studies meeting of the Social Work Department was
held on 22.06.2005 and for Cooperation was held on 28.06.2005.
Board of studies meeting of the Physics and Computer Science
were held on 30.06.2005 and for Cooperation was held on 28.06.2005.
Board of Studies meeting of English was held on 04.07.2005
and that of Chemistry was held on 08.07.2005; Board of Studies
meeting of Electronics was held on 15.07.2005.
NSS Advisory Committee meeting was held on 18.07.2005.
Inaugural Function of NSS activities was held on 18.07.2005
at 11.00 AM in the GKD Auditorium. Dr.P.K.Manoharan, NSS Coordinator,
Bharathiar University was the Chief Guest.
The Inspection Commission for Converting Evening College programme
into day college programme visited the college on 18.07.2005.
College Committee Meeting was held on 06.08.2005.
Inaugural function of the UGC assisted Career Oriented Diploma
and certificate courses was held on 22.08.2005 at 10.30 a.m in
the Seminar hall. Ms Lalitha Raman, Associate Vice President,
Bajaj Alliance Insurance Company Ltd., Coimbatore was the Chief
Guest.
A meeting of the Research and Publication Council was held
on 26.09.2005 and Dr.K.Natarajan, Professor and Head of the Department
of Chemistry and Registrar i/c of Bharathiar University released
the research compilation and addressed the faculty members and
Research Scholars. Swami Balakrishnanandaji Maharaj received
the first copy.
Department of Physics has conducted a one-day seminar COSMOS-05
in collaboration with Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre,
Chennai, on 05.10.2005.
A special meeting was organized under the auspices of NSS on
Independence Day and Sri Joseph C. administrative officer, Thambu
Primary School addressed the students on the role of students
in free India.
Autonomy Review Committee visited the College on 10.11.2005.
Finance committee meeting was held on 07.12.05.
Gurupuja Literary competitions for all categories have been
completed on 9th December 2005.
College Committee Meeting was held on 10.12.2005.
Principal along with office superintendent attended a meeting
Convened by Joint Director of Collegiate Education in connection
with Special scholarship scheme announced by Chief Minister for
the Children of farmers, on 21.12.2005 at 3.00 PM in the Government
Arts College.
A Meeting of the Examination committee was held on 4-1-2006
in the seminar at 2.30 PM.
Sri.K.Gangadharan, General Manager Sharadha Terry product Ltd,
Coimbatore (Dt) held discussion with Principal in connection their
proposal for collaboration with our college for their HR requirements,
on 5-1-2006.
A meeting of the Passing Board was held on 6-1-2006, for passing
the results of November 2005 examinations.
Under the staff club a seminar series on English as a Tool
for Effective Teaching was launched on 6-2-06 for the benefit
of our staff members. Dr.C.Chandrakasan conducts the seminar
series.
College Committee Meeting was held on 03.03.2006.
Thamil Chaaral function was held on 06.03.2006 and Dr.M.Natarajan
Professor of Tamil CBM College was the Chief Guest.
A proposal for Adventure Tourism has been sent to UGC for financial
assistance.
The New Building for Self-Financing wing was inaugurated and
Pooja performed on 03.08.2005. First year UG classes of the self
financing section were moved to the new building on 04.08.2005.
II year and III year UG classes were moved on 04.12.2005.
Vivekananda study circle was inaugurated by Swami Nirmaleshananda
on 24th Feb. 2006, Dr.S.Jayaraman, Director gave a
talk on "Vivekanandarin Gunanalankal".
